Venkata A. Surapaneni

Venkata A. Surapaneni (ESR2) is based at the University of Freiburg.

Venkata A. Surapaneni (Amar) was born in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. He did his schooling in his hometown of Vuyyuru. He received his Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering degree from Bapatla Engineering College, Nagarjuna University, Guntur in 2009. He later worked as a Research Assistant in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, where he gained experience of microscale mechanical testing of MEMS/ NEMS.

For his Masters project, Amar developed low-cost superhydrophobic coatings on metallic surfaces and received his Masters degree in Nanotechnology from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal in 2014. He also did a summer fellowship in the Physics Department of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras where he synthesized titanium dioxide nanotubes and titanium dioxide-graphene composites for photovoltaic applications.

Since then, he worked in the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at MGIT Hyderabad and VNR VJIET Hyderabad, before joining the PlaMatSu project in 2017. He now studies the ontogenetic changes of plant leaf surfaces and understands the mechanics of insect walking on wrinkled plant surfaces.
